Reproductive and Sexual Health

The Benzie-Leelanau District Health Department provides free or low cost reproductive and sexual health services to men and women of all ages. We will bill insurance, but also have a sliding fee scale for those who are uninsured.  We will never turn you away because of inability to pay.  All services are confidential.  Individuals under the age of 18 may receive services without parent consent as allowed by Michigan law. 

 

Pregnancy Testing

  • Referrals for pregnancy care options and contraception needs.

 

Sexually Transmitted Infection Screening 

  • Confidential and FREE testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infection
  • Assistance with partner notification and treatment, as needed 
  • Rapid HIV testing – results in 20 minutes 
  • Information and support to reduce your risk of infection or disease transmission 

Hepatitis C Testing

  • Confidential and FREE testing
  • Rapid testing is available, with results in 20 minutes.

  • CDC recommends Hepatitis C testing if you:

    • Are you 18 years of age and older
    • Are pregnant
    • Current inject drugs
    • Have ever injected drugs, even if it was just once or many years ago
    • Were born to a mother with hepatitis C
    • Have HIV
    • Received clotting factor concentrates before 1987
    • Have abnormal liver tests or liver disease
    • Are on hemodialysis
    • Have been exposed to blood from a person who has Hepatitis C
    • Received donated blood or organs before July 1992
    • Have ever been incarcerated

Take Control of Your Birth Control

Starting in November 2024, we’re offering free birth control and STI prevention supplies, available on a first-come, first-served basis. These resources include condoms, over-the-counter emergency contraception, and over-the-counter oral contraceptive pills—all provided at no cost and without the need for insurance information. Additionally, information on family planning services and health insurance options will be available, helping connect individuals to affordable healthcare coverage. This initiative supports reproductive health by providing immediate access to contraception and STI prevention supplies for all community members.

Wear One Campaign (Free Condoms)

  • Wear One is an initiative to provide free condoms and to promote awareness and use of condoms.
  • Reduce you risk of sexually transmitted infection or unplanned pregnancy through the use of condoms, even if other contraceptive methods are used.
  • Easy condom pick up locations available in the lobby of both health department offices between the hours of 8-4:30. No need to register or schedule an appointment.
