New Recommendations (last updated February 28, 2024):

On February 28, 2024, the ACIP recommended, and the CDC endorsed, that people ages 65 and older receive an additional dose of the current monovalent Covid-19Vaccine. Though Covid activity is currently trending downward in the United States, it's likely that virus circulation will likely continue at significant levels in the months ahead. ACIP made similar spring booster recommendations in 2022 and 2023. Older people tend to have greater immunosenescence, with waning of immunity, and are at greater risk for hospitalization from Covid-19 infection. People over 65 years have the highest hospitalization rates (and rates increase with increasing age) and those over 75 have the highest mortality rates, with multiple comorbidities increasing risk independently.
